COSMOS – 40 Years of Italian Access Systems (Since 1984)

Who is behind COSMOS? The Italian aluminium platform and scaffold maker founded in 1984: in-house engineering, robotic welding and its range.

COSMOS s.n.c. is an Italian manufacturer of aluminium access systems with more than forty years of production history (since 1984). This article introduces who COSMOS (Italy) is, what they make, and why their Italian origin is relevant to customers in the Czech Republic.

Behind every product stands a manufacturer with a specific history, philosophy and production capability. For access systems – scaffold towers, platforms and ladders – the choice of manufacturer matters not just on price, but above all for safety, documentation and the long-term availability of spare parts.

History and Origins

COSMOS s.n.c. has been operating in Italy (Albese con Cassano) since 1984 as a specialist manufacturer of aluminium access systems. From the outset, the company has focused on a single segment – safe access at height for industry, construction, retail and the public sector.

Over more than four decades, COSMOS has evolved from manual production to modern robotised manufacturing. Production has remained in Italy – a decision that is reflected in the quality of every product.

Today COSMOS supplies its products across Europe and to further international markets through a network of authorised distributors. INTRAPOL s.r.o. is the exclusive representative for the Czech Republic.

Where and How Products Are Made

COSMOS manufacturing takes place in Italy, in the company's own production facility. Critical stages of the manufacturing process are handled in-house – without outsourcing key operations to third-party suppliers.

In-house engineering department: COSMOS has an internal team of designers and engineers who develop new products, solve non-standard configurations for industrial customers and produce technical documentation. This enables fast response to specific requirements – without dependence on external subcontractors.

Robotic welding: load-bearing aluminium structures are welded by robots operated by staff qualified to EN ISO 14732. Robotic welds are more consistent, more precise and more controllable than manual welds – a critical advantage for structural safety components.

Manual welding to EN ISO 9606-2: for bespoke or specialist production where robotisation is not possible, COSMOS uses manual welders certified to EN ISO 9606-2 for aluminium welding.

COSMOS Portfolio – From Step Stool to Industrial Tower

COSMOS manufactures a complete range of access systems for different heights, sectors and applications.

Mobile scaffold towers – Marte range: the flagship COSMOS product and a Made in Italy scaffold in the true sense. Marte S (narrow, 0.74 m) and Marte L (standard, 1.35 m) are available in 16 and 20 height configurations respectively (working height up to 11.55 m and 13.99 m respectively). Marte S and Marte L include the ServoTech assembly tool for fitting guardrails safely from the platform below. In the 1.35 m width there is also Marte Comfort, with 45° internal stairs and Safe Parapets guardrails. Certified to UNI EN 1004-1/-2:2021, load class 3 (200 kg/m²).

Telescopic ladders with platform – TeleGemma, Super TeleGemma: products for work at variable heights without the need for reassembly. Adjustable platform height, 360° containment system, certified to EN 131-7.

Stair platforms – Orsa, Palco, Gemma: compact platforms for retail, logistics, archives and industry. Fixed height, ergonomic step access, certified to EN 131, EN 131-7 or EN 14183 depending on the model. The Super Palco is supplied with the SmartLock braking system, which switches the platform from rolling on castors to standing firmly on its feet with a single lever.

Compact mobile retail platforms – MiniGemma: designed for working at supermarket shelving. 360° protection (100 cm guardrail), platform height up to 0.5 m, 2 or 4 spring-loaded castors that make the platform lock itself under load (2WD / 4WD). Built to the French E.M.E.R. standards.

Industrial tower platforms – Super Torretta: robust stair towers for hangars, manufacturing plants and logistics centres. Steps instead of a ladder, 60 × 70 cm platform with a 150 kg load capacity, working height 2.70–5.91 m, automatic braking system.

Vehicle access systems – Super Tukan: modular stair platforms for access to vehicles, rail wagons and industrial machinery. Selectable platform width and height (0.40–2.00 m), access via a 45° ramp.

Fibreglass products – FIBRA range: ladders and platforms made from fibreglass for work near live electrical equipment. We cover the differences from aluminium in a separate article.

Why Made in Italy Matters

Italian manufacturing is not a marketing slogan – it has concrete consequences for the customer.

Spare parts availability: with a manufacturer that has its own production in the EU, parts availability is easier to verify.

Technical support and customisation: COSMOS's in-house engineering department makes it possible to address non-standard applications – a different dimension, special accessories, a fibreglass version – without having to go to a third manufacturer.

Accountability: an Italian manufacturer is subject to European product liability and product safety legislation.

Certification: COSMOS scaffold towers are certified to EN 1004, ladders and platforms to EN 131 or EN 14183; the declaration of conformity with EN 1004 / EN 131 is issued by the manufacturer.
